Project name: Apple, Covent Garden
Site: Covent Garden, London
Project: Clean and protect internal paved and original brick surfaces circa 3,000m2
Brief:
Covent Garden is the computer company’s 300th store and forms part of a list of new outlets, which includes those in Shanghai, Chicago and Paris.
The new store at Number 1, The Piazza is situated in a grade II listed Victorian version of a 17th- century piazza and has glass staircases, exposed brickwork and a courtyard under a glass roof.
Apple’s outlet in Regent Street has been historically it’s most successful globally, with more customers and profits than it’s shop on Fifth Avenue store in Manhattan. Covent Garden with a compliment of over 300 staff, is now the jewel in the crown and an important global statement.
Forest Pennant natural stone was carefully selected and laid within the magnificently restored Palladian building, dominated by the glass covered courtyard, designed to offer consumers the most refined and beautiful retail experience in the world.
QSS, recommended by Forest Pennant Stone, were contracted to protect surfaces to enhance and fulfil the Clients demanding standards and expectations.
Solution:
On the natural stone floor deep construction stains were painstakingly removed by hand using both traditional and modern techniques to ensure a perfect blemish free finish.
To avoid the possibility of water damage, QSS rotary washed the paving using state of the art vacuum recovery equipment, before drying, checking and only then, applying the impregnation.
In total around 1000m2 of natural sandstone flooring was protected against staining with Qstone SF our low odour solvent free treatment for internal applications.
After viewing our standard of work and completion of this process the client also contracted QSS to apply an anti-dusting impregnation solution for 2000m2 of the original internal natural brickwork.
Both treatments had to be accommodated at very tight time schedules, working around the clients bespoke fixtures and fittings. Given the value and amount of glass structures, solid oak furniture and high-end wall mounted giant screens, the very highest levels of care and masking were absolutely essential to ensure the contracts success.
Given the levels of customer satisfaction achieved, QSS anticipates further contracts from Apple.
The client was extremely appreciative of our operatives work ethic, attention to detail and general high standards.
